Arsenal are refusing to drop their £30 million valuation of star
striker and captain Robin Van Persie, after Friday’s low-bid (believed
to be in the £10-15 million range) was immediately rejected by the North
London club.
Arsene Wenger is determined to recoup as large a fee as he can for
his star talisman, believing the PFA Player of the Year is one of the
best players in the world right now.
The astronomical price tag is now likely to turn off Manchester
United, who don’t have as much cash reserve as their rivals and would
prefer to spend that much on Lucas Moura. It may also rule out interest
from Italian champions Juventus, leaving Manchester City as the only
realistic move for Van Persie but the question remains whether they
would be willing to spend that much on a 28-year-old (who turns 29 next
month) who only has one season left on his contract. They also wish to
offload Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko first before making a big move for a
new striker.
